For the last 50 years the local Harold Dean Charitable Trust has occupied the majority of ‘The Ocean’ a series of lakes, on the outskirts of Harleston, developed from local gravel mining. Occupation was through an informal agreement with the owners. During this time the site has been managed for quiet recreation, mainly fishing and sailing. But is also enjoyed by the Sea Cadets, Assistance Dogs training groups, and the Fire Service among others. Above all it is an excellent site for wildlife.
The owners now wish to sell the property and the Trustees wish to acquire the land. Ownership would enable the Trust to continue and enhance their nature conservation work, and to improve access for appreciation of wildlife.
"The Harold Dean Trust has my support to their ambition to support nature recovery." District Councillor, Trevor Graham
